How to Charge AirPods Without Case?

If you have misplaced your AirPods charging case or it has been damaged, there are still many ways you can use to charge your AirPods without their original case.

In this article, we have explained different solutions you can use to charge your AirPods.

How to Charge AirPods Without Case

Buy a Replacement Wireless Charging Case

If your charge case is lost or stolen, buying a new one will immediately solve the problem. Here, you have two options to choose from.

Original Apple Wireless Charging Case

Get in touch with the customer support of Apple, and for that, you should have the information related to your AirPods, its version and the serial number of the charging Airpod case. You can get your serial number through the Apple website.

After providing all the vital information and spending $100 for the charging case, you will soon get an alternative wireless charger sent by the company.

Replacement AirPods Case by Other Brands

If you cannot buy an original case, you can buy an AirPods pro case produced by other brands. Although they are readily available online, they aren’t reliable and up to the mark specs-wise compared to the original ones.

Your AirPods 1st generation, AirPods Pro, AirPods 2nd generation, and AirPods 3rd generation can be charged through:

1.      A QI certified charging mat

Charge your AirPods via an alternative charging case by placing them on the mat. Observe the blinking amber or green light. It indicates the charging status of the AirPods.

2.      A Lightning Cable

Use the lightning cable, whose one end is attached to the lightning connector located on the charging case and the other end to a USB adopter that should be high quality, preferably an iPhone or an iPad adopter.

Avoid Experimenting Based On Myths

As we all know that AirPods cannot be charged without the charging case; thus, we need to bust the following myths, so you can avoid trouble by avoiding mistakes.

Myth 1: You Can Use a Narrow Pin Charger to Charge AirPods

Using narrow pin charging causes damage to the AirPods. Your AirPods will not pair with your phone after getting charged through a narrow pin. This is because AirPods always require a specific voltage to work and charge precisely.

Myth 2: You Can Use a Mobile App to Replenish Your AirPods Battery

Mobile apps have no connection with the charging of AirPods. We tried multiple apps to charge them, but this solution didn’t work. So, that justifies the wireless charging of AirPods.

How Long Do AirPods Take to Charge?

According to Apple Support, third-generation AirPods and AirPods Pro need only a charging time of 5 minutes for 1 hour of talk time, and 1 hour of listening time, while in second-generation AirPods, charging time of 15 minutes gives 2 and 3 hours of talk time and listening time, respectively.

How to Know if AirPods Are Charging or Not?

The charging status of your AirPods can be checked through your Mac OS device. It does not matter whether you use an iPhone or an iPad.

How to Determine the Battery Status of Your AirPods on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

The charging status of AirPods can be checked in two ways on your Apple devices.

Place the Open Charging Case Near Your Apple Device

Open the charging case lid and place it near your Apple device to check the charging status. The charging status will be displayed within seconds on your device’s screen.

Note that the Silicone cover may cause interference; thus, remove it before charging.

Use the Battery Widget on Your Apple Device

You can use the widget in your apple device to check the battery status of your AirPods. However, make sure the case has at least one Airpod before you try to use this method.

Why Isn’t My AirPods Case Charging?

Errors in the charging of cases may occur. You can avoid them by checking these points explained below.

If you are using the charging mat or lightning cable to charge the AirPods, check and ensure they are correctly plugged and connected to the power outlet.

Does the Case Need a Reset?

You can also choose the reset function if the problem with the charging of the case emerges. There is a reset button located on the backside of the case. Press and hold it for about 15 seconds until the amber or white light starts blinking. This will reset your charging case.

Does the Case’s Charge Port Require Cleaning?

If the charging problem is still there, try cleaning the case’s charging port. Use a toothpick or brush to clean the charging port from the inside. Once it’s done, check the inside of the case by using a lightning cable.

Is There Something Wrong With the Charging Cable?

Changing the charging cable may help sometimes. If the original lighting cable is not affordable, any other cable that is MFI certified can also be bought.

Does the AirPods’ Firmware Require an Update?

If all the above solutions aren’t working, check the AirPods firmware update (info here), as it may cause a problem charging the device, says Lifewire. If the update is required, update it and try charging again.

Check into the Apple store if the problem is still there after trying all these methods.
